Transcarpathian women started campaign ‘Towel of Ukraine’s unification’ in the village of Sil in Velykyj Bereznyj district. Local craftswoman put the first stitches on 2-meter long canvas. This is a symbol of the event’s beginning.
‘Multicolored Lemko style embroidery exists in Velykyi Bereznyi: flowers, leaves and branches, – said Natalia Ivanytsia – I laid the foundation of the ornament, which will be continued by other embroiderers’.
Organizers of this event urged everyone to participate in common towel embroidery.
‘I came from Dnipropetrovsk region to visit my sister. I came on the village holiday and of course I want to make a stitch on the towel – said Natalia Drohalova, dweller of the village of Pokrovske in Dnipropetrovsk region – this is important for me. We drove here 36 hours across the Ukraine. It is so big, so beautiful and so versatile’.
‘We have planned this for six months but organized it very quickly – said the organizer of event ‘Towel of Ukraine’s Unification’ Larysa Alyentyeva. – We are supported by all the districts of Transcarpathia.
The similar event was launched simultaneously in Donetsk. The women will exchange their towels already in two weeks Transcarpathian activists decided to present Donetsk pass one of the local museums.
