Valeriy Patskan: “I have never suggested to repeal the patronymic”

Recently, the media informed that Valeriy Patskan initiates a bill that proposes to abolish the concept of "patronymic", which has become the rudiment of the Soviet Union.

The People’s Deputy denied this on his Facebook page.

– Dear journalists! Several days ago, the media began to spread information that the bill on cancellation of the patronymic had been registered in the Verkhovna Rada. I was called the initiator, and they even quoted me saying that this is a world-wide practice and that I believe that Ukraine should adopt it.
I want to declare that this is not true.
I assume that the confusion arose due to the bill "On Amendments to the Civil Code of Ukraine (regarding the right to change the patronymic)", which was registered on February 4, 2015.
It is about the right to change the patronymic, not the cancellation of the patronymic. I proposed (and still propose) to supplement Article 295 of the Civil Code of Ukraine with provisions that allow an individual to change not only his or her surname and / or name (as provided for in the current version of this Article) but also the patronymic.
Here is the link to my bill on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada.
