The head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Valeriy Lunchenko commented on the progress and results of the election:
– First of all I would like to congratulate the Ukrainian people. Despite the opinions of skeptics, the election has taken place. As in the rest of the country, the election in Transcarpathia was fair and democratic. There were no cases of administrative pressure, or other serious violations that would have affected the outcome of the vote. The headquarters at the regional administration was monitoring the situation in the region around the clock.
Traditionally, the turnout in Transcarpathian region was not high (about 51%).
Ukraine has chosen the European path. Today, Europe is ready for a dialogue with Ukraine, for cooperation. I hope that the economic package of the Association with the European Union will be signed next month, and in this year we will have a visa-free regime with the EU. Of course, both the President of Ukraine and the Government should work in this direction, towards convergence with the European Community.
