For the sixth consecutive year, Uzhgorod citizens were asking for peace and tranquility to our country with the traditional common “Prayer for Ukraine”.
The festive action started at dawn on Andriy Bachynsky Square, in front of the Greek Catholic Holy Cross Cathedral, with the performance of the song "Prayer for Ukraine" by the Honored Academic Transcarpathian People’s Choir under the direction of Natalia Petiy-Potapchuk. Soloists of the choir, in particular, Petro Matiy, Yana Sadvariy and others, performed patriotic compositions.
Priests of different denominations prayed for peace in our country, as well as for those who, at the cost of their lives, are protecting our territories from enemy aggression at the frontline.
The highlight of the event was the performance of the National Anthem of Ukraine to the sound of church bells.
Guests from abroad – amateur groups "Valgundietis" and "Saulgriezhi" from Latvia – presented authentic choreographic performances.
The "Prayer for Ukraine", dedicated to the 28th Independence Day, was a good start of the celebrations, emphasized the need for unity of citizens, belief in a bright future.
Celebration of our country’s Independence Day will continue at 15.00 on Teatralna Square with a concert with the participation of the city artists.
