The mass climbing to the highest peak of Lviv region – the Pikuy mountain (1408 m) – concluded the open sports tourism championship of Lviv region. The organizers of sporting events were Lviv Regional Federation of Sport Tourism and the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv Regional State Administration in cooperation with the Federation of Scouts "Galician Rus" and the Tourist climbing center "Rock."
9 teams from NGOs and academic institutions participated in the "Pikuyana 2013". The event was dedicated to the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus and the 69th anniversary of Ukraine’s liberation from the Nazis, and also to the memory of the famous Lviv tourist Eduard Zaitsev.
In total, over 150 athletes and active lifestyle enthusiasts took part in the ascent.
The winners of this year’s competition, gaining the same number of points, became the teams of the Lviv State University of Physical Culture and "Uzhgorod" outpost of the Federation of Scouts "Galician Rus".
In addition to the winners, they also awarded the youngest and the oldest participants of the championship. They were 12-year-old Mykola Papish, who climbed in the team of Volovets district of Transcarpathia, and a couple from Lviv. Young people greeted with applause 75-year-old Yuri and Valentina Samarins who marked with the ascent to the summit a double anniversary, because this year the couple also celebrates the 55th anniversary of their marriage.
