Uzhgorod sharp dresser is in pink today

Today, October 11, on the International Day of Girls, Uzhgorod symbol – Svobodka – is dressed in a pink gown, the Zaholovok reported.

The purpose of the International Day of Girls, which this year is celebrated for the second time is to draw attention to discrimination against girls in different countries, to raise awareness of inequalities faced by girls around the world.

The first celebration was devoted to the problem of early marriages. It is a violation of human rights that affects every aspect of girls’ lives. According to UN figures, almost one in three young women aged 20 to 24 years got married for the first time before 18 years of age. This practice is most common in South Asia (46%), African countries south of the Sahara (37%), Latin America and the Caribbean (29%). The European Union and CIS countries account for 11% of such cases.
