On January 15, Uzhgorod rescuers, at the request of local authorities, removed from the pedestrian bridge supports the debris carried by flood wave. Within two hours, from 9:30 to 11:30, the rescuers were clearing the supports from trees that fell into the Uzh river upstream. The works were performed by representatives of the mountain search and rescue department and diving and rescue department of Uzhgorod.
In total, rescuers cleared two bridge supports, removing two cubic meters of wood. Mountain recuers descended on ropes from a bridge and using chainsaws cut tree trunks, and divers cleared the support of branches and roots of trees. They pulled out the debris using ropes and a car. Such work is extremely important, because garbage jams can lead to the destruction of the bridge supports. In addition, cluttering leads to low throughput of the channel and thus to breaking of water out of the river banks.
