Investigators of the Uzhgorod Police Department opened a criminal investigation into the destruction of tombstones in the territory of one of the city cemeteries.
At around 9:00 pm, Uzhgorod police received a report of damage to the tombstones at the Kalvaria Cemetery in Uzhgorod.
Police officers were working at the scene. At the moment, law enforcement officers are establishing the nature and cause of the damage.
Uzhgorod Police investigators initiated a criminal proceeding under part 1 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Grave desecration). The sanction of the article provides for maximum punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 3 years.
The investigation continues.
