In the evening of October 6, 1957, Ilya Aleksakhin, a sophomore at Uzhgorod State University, marked a point on the map of the starry sky
And it became the starting point of the Earth man-made satellite route. The student received 30 rubles award for it. ⠀
After the success of Uzhgorod astrophysicists, the laboratory became one of the most successful in the USSR. It received its first camera from Riga in 1966.
The team was led by Motrya Bratiychuk, who ran the laboratory for 44 years.
A whole scientific school emerged there with several generations of physicists-astronomers, and the small planet (asteroid) № 3372 was named after Motrya Bratiychuk.
