Uzhgorod Mayor vetoed problems

The deputy mayor, the executive committee managing affairs Daniela Gevorkian confirmed to Zakarpattia online the information that Uzhgorod Mayor vetoed the projects decisions which were included in the session agenda on May 24, and which envisaged the changes in the Uzhgorod City Council regulation work, the Executive Committee membership and commission on municipal property renting at the same time. According to her, the order on the City Council session suspension decision has been issued on Friday, May 25.

‘There were announced three draft decisions, except issues that were included in the Uzhgorod City Council session agenda on May 24. The relevant decisions were included on the agenda, discussed and voted. Immediately after the end of the session, the City Mayor used his right, the so-called right to veto, that is provided by the Law of Ukraine ‘On Local Government’, since the draft decisions were adopted with procedures violation’ – said Daniela Gevorkian.

She said that ‘the motion form from the city prosecutor in which he basically confirmed the veto decision correctness came on the City Council address. Thus, it is clearly stated in the view: the enumerated projects decisions that were discussed at the plenary session, were not submitted in the 14-day period, or discussed, or even not agreed by the specialized commissions. They did not even pass the legal expertise or any deputies’ discussion’.

The City Mayor orders on the veto of the voted decisions will be submitted on the agenda on the next Uzhgorod City Council session meeting. According to the procedure, in order to overcome the veto, the deputies will be able by voting on its cancelation in the amount of 2/3 from the general composition: ‘If two-thirds vote to overcome the veto, the voted decision will come into force’, – said the Deputy Mayor.
