The insolent destruction of the monument of architecture is taking place under continuing inaction of the city authorities and the department of culture of the RSA!
This is the opinion of the advocate of the architectural and historical heritage of Uzhgorod, designer Oleg Olashin. He gives an example and explains why he considers what is being done to the monument to be a destruction:
"As a result of the addition of the attic floor and the arrangement of windows, the monument has completely lost its original appearance.
The building of the former "Bercheni" hotel (restaurant "Chervena Ruzha") was built in 1909 in secession style. It has the status of a monument of architecture of local importance.
The construction is beng performed without any permits!
In June, the Department of Culture of the Regional State Administration sent replies to information requests, which stated that the construction was illegal and a working group was formed to study the situation. However, two months have passed, and illegal works at the monument not only have not stopped – they are being actively perfomed, destroying our history and our cultural heritage.
The law of Ukraine "On the Protection of the Cultural Heritage" prohibits any reconstruction on objects of cultural heritage! Only restoration, conservation, repair, etc. are allowed. Criminal liability is provided for illegal works!".
In his post on the Save Uzhgorod page, he says that the city chief architect Oleg Borshovsky, the city mayor Bohdan Andriyiv, the head of the regional culture department Victoria Frolova, and the head of the local office of state architectural and construction control Oleksandra Zotova must respond to this situation. And appeals with the same question to the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office…
