Uzhgorod is under quarantine. Impressions from a work-related trip around the city are two-fold. On the one hand, it is reassuring that the vast majority of locals have taken the necessary measures responsibly – there are very few people and cars on the streets of the city.
On the other hand, this is very, very unusual. Uzhgorod looks like a footage from the films about apocalypse – this desolation is a bit depressing. Where there are always many people in the warm spring days, it is now empty. Closed cafes, boutiques, restaurants. Silence is all around.
And at the same time, it is SPRING! It didn’t go anywhere, and it can’t be scared off with coronavirus. Nature comes to life and the city is full of bright, festive colors. The joy of spring is all around the city and there is no one to share it with.
In the meantime, I invite you to take a look at some photos of today’s Uzhgorod. Blooming and desolate. Unusual and beloved.
