The police are conducting a pre-trial investigation into deliberate serious bodily harm that led to death. The suspects have been detained.
Uzhgorod district police have opened a criminal investigation into fatal beating of a resident of Chop. The incident happened on February 23rd. Then, an unknown person was hospitalized with signs of hypothermia. The victim was a 68-year-old resident of Chop. The man died.During the autopsy, it was found out that death was caused not by frostbite, but by numerous bodily injuries.
The classification of the case was changed from natural death to intentional grave bodily harm that led to death.
To find out all the circumstances, the police carried out a number of investigative activities and found out that a conflict had arisen between the victim and a 25-year-old resident of the village of Velyka Dobron during a party in the house of their common acquaintance in Chop, as a result of which the latter, together with the house owner’s partner – a 35-year-old resident of Chop previously convicted for murder – inflicted bodily injuries to the 68-year-old man.
After that, the victim left the house and headed in an unknown direction. On the way, he felt sick, and the man was picked up by an ambulance. Paramedics took the man to the hospital, but they could not save his life.
Investigators of the Uzhgorod district police department re-classified the crime, in particular under Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Both suspects in the crime were found and arrested by law enforcement officers. According to the court ruling, a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention for 2 months was imposed on the men. The investigation continues.
