The delegation of the sister city was staying in Uzhgorod for three days, from November 20 to 23. Activists of the Darmstadt partner movement Ulrich Wissmann, Oksana Skrypnyk and Peter Eri are in charge of various areas of co-operation.
During numerous meetings of the German guests with representatives of Uzhgorod public, they discussed the intensified cooperation, the main areas of which are utilities, ecology, social area, development of civic society.
The revitalization of the partnership took place with the financial support of the German nonprofit state enterprise "Engagement Global – Service fuer Entwicklungsinitiativen" of the federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development within the framework of the "Fast Launch Package Ukraine" project. The program of support for the communal partnership is planned to be continued next year. During the workshops held these days, active representatives of Uzhgorod community identified the priorities for further cooperation in 2018:
– Sports and youth (exchange of athletes, joint sports events),
– culture (music, art),
– education (schools, professional colleges, universities, informal education),
– tourism (development of tourism and raising the quality of service).
During the discussion, Ulrich Wissmann, a representative of the "Circle of Friends Ukraine-Germany" and Peter Eri, an expert in the tourism industry, provided essential consultative assistance.
In order to implement the planned activities, in early 2018, the NGO "Darmstadt-Uzhgorod Partnership" will be established to become a platform for a wide range of public initiatives. Uzhgorod residents with an active social position and creative ideas about partnership are invited to join the activities of the future organization.
