Uzhgorod city council has decided to accede to the European initiative “Covenant of Mayors”

At today’s meeting, Uzhgorod city council has decided to accede to the European initiative "Covenant of Mayors". This project aims to unite European local authorities in a voluntary organization for the joint fight against global warming. The signatories of the Covenant of Mayors take on voluntary commitments to exceed the EU requirements regarding reduction of CO2 emissions by at least 20% by implementing energy efficiency measures and use of renewable energy sources.

The following requirements are imposed on the signatory:
– to do a basic inventory of CO2 emissions in the city of Uzhgorod within one year from the date of signature of the Agreement;
– to prepare and to submit plans for sustainable energy development within a year after joining the Covenant of Mayors for approval by the city council, which must describe consistent and practical steps that they plan to implement to achieve the objectives of the Agreement.
