Stone, gravel, sand – all this builders dumped on the narrow gauge railway that runs along Botanichna embankment. This is the area near the former "Spartak" swimming pool, where, as you know, ex-Mayor of Uzhgorod is building an entertainment complex.
Workers work with building materials right (!) on tracks. Of course, no approvals have been given. A journalist of the "Zamok" reported the fact of a possible offense to the police at the Uzhgorod station.
It should be noted that almost a year ago, in June, the builders also overwhelmed the track with timber when they were felling poplars. Then, neither transport prosecutor nor police found "components of a crime" in such actions.
Remarkably, the railway is still abandoned and neglected. This is despite the statements of the heads of Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Oleksandr Ledyda and Uzhgorod City Council Victor Pogorelov that the railway must be saved.
Municipal government headed by the Mayor went even further: at the last session, the deputies agreed to take narrow-gauge on the balance only on condition that …it could be sold. Lviv railway did not agree to give the narrow-gauge railway under such conditions.
Interestingly, on May 9, the new season of children narrow-gauge railways in Lviv, Lutsk and Rivne opened. However, the agency categorically refuse to maintain the group of young railwaymen in Uzhgorod. The last time the narrow gauge was operating was in 2010 thanks to local sponsors.
