Uzhgorod Castle opens doors and shows…Transcarpathian football on May 18

Traditionally in Museum Day on May 18 the Transcarpathian Regional Museum, that is placed in Uzhgorod Castle will work for free and the new exhibitions are being prepared for visitors. In particular, the official opening of the new thematic exhibition of the history department (author – the senior department researcher Mykhailo Dzhakhman) entitled ‘Pages of the Transcarpathian football history’ will be held at 11 a.m. There will be presented the collections of photographs, artifacts, archival documents, posters and playbills starting from 1893 years to present days among the materials. It is expected that exhibition will be decorated in very original way (it will represent the improvised football pitch) and at the opening will arrive ‘Goverla-Zakarpattia’ football team and legendary Transcarpathian football team of ‘old’ school.

The Department of Nature will present a mini-exhibition ‘Opal. The Color Palette’, (the exhibition author – the chief of the Department of Nature Ruslana Dzhakhman) to the Day of Museum. There are 54 different samples of Opal gathered on the territory of region and a sample from Slovakia (it is dark red opal which was presented to the museum by the East Museum colleagues in Kosice) in the geological museum. Visitors will also be able to see unhvaryt the Transcarpathian kind of opal. This is stone with clay nontronit mineral and hydroxides of iron admixture. It is often called hloropal for its green color. The name derived from the town of Uzhgorod (Ungvar), which was discovered by E.F. Hekler in 1839.

Besides, new exhibitions of History Department work in the museum currently (author – the chief of the Department Olena Kobal) ‘The appearance and activity f the joint stock company “Unio” (1902-1932) in Transcarpathia’ and the new exhibition of A. Voloshyn and modern history department ‘Augustin Voloshyn’s heritage from the museum fund collection (to the 10^th anniversary from A. Voloshyn’s museum memorial building)’.

The regional amateur music bands will perform on the territory of Uzhgorod Castle. Besides, there will be a lot of interesting things.
