The Treasury continues to "confiscate" the money "earned" by Transcarpathian regional museum. Particularly, 1.5 million hryvnias for the last year alone remain "frozen" on the accounts at the State Treasury. This was reported by the director of the institution Vasyl Sheba.
"And we don’t even have the money to buy a broom to clean the area, – the head of the Uzhgorod main tourist attraction on the Castle Hill said. Given that in the first quarter of 2014, we earned over 300,000 UAH – he said – I just do not understand why we have to worry about "survival"…"
Moreover, in general over 20 years, Uzhgorod Castle have received from the state budget for restoration works minuscule 3,200,000 UAH. With this money, they have managed to save only the north-west tower, now, the eastern one is "waiting" for financing.
"To be honest, annually we allocate up to 500,000 UAH of our own money for the maintenance of the castle, – Mr. Sheba said. – The facade was restored, we organize exhibitions, repair the interior of the Renaissance "estate-citadel"… And all by ourselves… But now the repair of the roof of the palace is the most urgent issue… Heating needs to be fixed! Not to mention the need for special devices that would create a favorable climate for rarities – regulate temperature… If they gave us at least the amount that we earn from tourism, we could do something, and now we can just watch and note problem areas!"
By the way, since the independence the number of visitors has increased four times – up to 120 thousand, 95% of the castle area is open for tourists. And it used to be only 5%.
All hope that the situation will soon change for the better…
