“Uzhgorod” became a municipal newspaper

The relevant decision was adopted today by the deputies of the Uzhgorod city council. This is the final decision regarding the transfer of the rights to the "Uzhgorod" newspaper to its labor collective, who have established a limited liability company. 31 deputies voted for the decision.

The company should sign a contract with the city council to assume the responsibility for the paper, and the city council will not influence the editorial policy and will not be obliged to financially support the paper. The newspaper will be printing any content as it sees fit and will be managing its own economy. In essence, now the staff of the paper will have to ensure the paper makes profit. To complete the process, the parties have to sign the agreement, that was approved today, and new owners have to re-register the paper.

For reference: According to the reform, all publications must exclude government bodies from the list of founders and to re-register. 3 years was allocated for the implementation of this reform, and this term has already expired. Those publications, that have not completed the required reform procedures by December 31, 2018, may lose their certificates of state registration.
