On August 21, 2018, there was a meeting under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Yuriy Lavrenyuk on resuming the full functioning of the International Airport "Uzhgorod". This is stated on the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
Yuriy Lavrenyuk noted that at the moment there are a number of priority tasks to be solved: "The first is the issue of aircraft approaching from Slovakia, the installation of air navigation equipment at the airport, as well as the light signal system and the approach lights both on the territory of the airport, and on the territory of the Slovak Republic. The second one is the obstacles (buildings) that obstruct the safe approach of aircrafts and installation of a mobile control tower. The third is the conclusion of an agreement between air navigation service providers of Ukraine and Slovakia for instrumental flights. And, fourthly, if the local authorities are not able to find the necessary financing for the purchase of the light signal system, as well as to resolve other current issues of the airport’s activity, the issue of transferring the airport from communal property to the state will be considered."
The Deputy Minister also said that after September 10, 2018, the European Agency for the Safety of Aircrafts (EASA) will begin the process of certification of the UkSATSE for the compliance with the norms of the European Union as a provider of air navigation services in Ukraine.
The meeting participants have developed a series of immediate short-term steps for re-opening of the airport.
Recall that in early August, the Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan said that the airport "Uzhgorod" would be definitely put into operation this year.
