Uzh is being cleaned up! UAH 300 thousand was allocated to fight “islands” and willows (PHOTOS)

The city authorities have seriously stepped up their activity in anticipation of autumn.

Serious works are taking place in the Uzh riverbed, downstream the Masaryk bridge (towards Bozdosh park) – the machines are dredging soil and stones.

As the Deputy Mayor Volodymyr Flenko commented to Uzhgorod.in, the work was commenced because "islands" have become visible on the Uzh.

This is the lowest water level in, at least, many years, and we are using it in order to remove sediment and willows. Because, when the rain falls, clogging of the Uzh channel can cause serious consequences, even flooding – the official said.

UAH 300 thousand was allocated for these activities, and at the same time experts are determining how many meters of the riverbed should be cleaned so that the channel "live" normally. However, there are no plans to deepen the river.

The work should be completed in two to three weeks – Flenko informs.
