“UZ” says that fares should be raised 6 times

Fares for commuter rail must be increased on average 6 times so that costs would not exceed revenues.
This was reported by the "Ekonomichna pravda" with reference to the press service of "UZ".
"This figure is averaged as tariff is calculated depending on the distance, the specific route, type of propulsion," – said the statement.
The company reported that transportation in suburban areas is nonproductive by its nature, but the problem needs to be solved together.
The "Ukrainian Railways" also noted that current fares are 1.5 – 4 times lower than that for similar motor transport services in Ukraine.
As you know, recently "UZ" said that they want to allocate 8.66 billion hryvnias on the renewal of rolling stock in 2013.
As earlier reported, the Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that modernization of "UZ" needs 400-500 new trains.
However, the Deputy Prime Minister of Infrastructure Kolesnikov noted that there are no funds for modernization of railway passenger rolling stock.
"The administration always bought these trains with their own money, even though by law the government should provide funding for the procurement of trains carrying passengers," – said the press service of "UZ".
