Underwater smuggling in Transcarpathia (PHOTOS)

An attempt of illegal transportation of a large batch of tobacco products across the Ukrainian-Romanian border was thwarted last night by border guards of the department "Solotvyno" of the Mukachevo detachment together with members of the operational and search department of the  
Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service. Around midnight, the border guards noticed a group of people moving towards the Tisa river, which forms the Ukrainian-Romanian border. The offenders ignored lawful orders of the border guards and ran away, leaving their cargo. The border guards made several warning shots, one of the smugglers was arrested. He was a 20-year-old Ukrainian citizen. The man was wearing a wetsuit. Reports under Part 1 of Art. 204-1 and Art. 185-10 of the CAO were drawn up against him, the case was sent to the court. During further search, 300 meters to the border, soldiers found the abandoned packages containing 14 boxes of cigarettes. The contraband goods were delivered to the department "Solotvyno". After the count, it was found out that the smugglers had planned to move to the neighboring country 7,300 packs of cigarettes. Measures to identify the persons involved in the crime are currently being taken.
