The UZ is still going to turn Mukachevo into a passenger railway hub for international trains, the cfts.org.ua reported.
The "Ukrzaliznytsya" PJSC plans to build the missing segment of the European standard 1435 mm track approximately 500 m long extending it to the railway station in Mukachevo.
This follows from what Oleksandr Krasnoshtan, the head of the department of long-distance passenger transportation of the "Ukrzaliznytsya", said in an interview with the CFTS.
"There is a project for reconstruction of the tracks to extend the European standard track to the station and organize a very comfortable passenger hub there," – Krasnostan said.
"Moreover, we see that private European operators are interested in working with us and send trains to Mukachevo. They see a big passenger traffic here. And we have to do this, because it is profitable," – he added.
Recall that now the train Mukachevo-Budapest departs from a specially equipped platform built on the spot where the European standard track ends. Passengers have to go about half a kilometer to get to it from the station building.
It should be noted that in the interview with the CFTS, Krasnoshtan also said that the private Czech railway company RegioJet would like to establish railway service to Ukraine by launching a train to Mukachevo.
