Ukrainian Uzhgorod and Croatian Požega are twin cities

The cooperation agreement was signed today by Uzhgorod Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv and the mayor of the city of Požega Darko Puljacis.

The meeting in Uzhgorod City Council was also attended by the initiator of the cooperation – teacher of the University of Požega Berislav Andrlic.
The heads of the cities exchanged experience in infrastructure matters – the Croatian city receives considerable funds for it from the European Union. Both the Croatian city and Uzhgorod face a major problem of the mass departure of the best specialists abroad.

Darko Puljacis noted that it was his first visit in Uzhgorod and in Ukraine. They want to have close cooperation with Uzhgorod in all spheres: exchange of management experience, establishing contacts between educational establishments, art collectives, exchanges of athletes, and the development of business contacts.

The Croatian colleague invited Bohdan Andriyiv and Uzhgorod citizens to the Day of the City in March. Požega with about 25 thousand inhabitants is famous for its festivals.

This Croatian city is located not on the coast, but in the wide Požega Valley, surrounded by the old mountains, which in the Roman times was called "The Golden Valley". Požega has become the 22nd sister city of Uzhgorod and the 2nd one (after Pula) from Croatia.
