Last week, a large group of Ukrainian carolers visited the Czech Republic. More than 130 performers of Christmas carols came at the invitation of the NGO "Ukrainian Initiative in the Czech Republic", in cooperation with the Transcarpathian NGO "Small Academy of Literature and Journalism", headed by Transcarpathian journalist Irina Harmasiy.
Ukrainian ritual culture in Europe was presented by children from different regions of our country: Ternopil, Transcarpathia and cities of Mariupol and Brovary. After the festive Christmas liturgy, which was conducted exclusively in Ukrainian, four groups from Ukraine performed for emigrants who completely filled the church of St. Clement in the center of Prague.
As Father Vasyl Slavotsky told the correspondent of Uzhgorod.net, Ukrainians are officially recognized by Czech authorities as a national minority. Most Ukrainians living and working in the Czech Republic come from the western regions of Ukraine, where the Greek Catholic Church is deeply rooted in tradition. Therefore, clergymen of the Greek Catholic St. Clement church always invite various Ukrainian artists to perform for immigrants so that they would not lost their ties with the homeland and would not forget the ritual traditions of their people.
