Ukraine offers foreign partners a compromise on the implementation of the Law on Education

The Ukrainian party is ready to hold consultations with representatives of foreign states and international organizations and, as an option, proposes to create a joint working group with our foreign partners in order to develop a mechanism for the implementation of this Law.

This was stated by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilia Grinevich on September 15 during a briefing for representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Ukraine. This information was distributed in the social network Facebook by the Embassy of Ukraine in Hungary.

The Minister Grinevich informed foreign diplomats in detail about the peculiarities and content of the Law of Ukraine "On Education" recently adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Namely, about the changes in the education for representatives of national minorities in Ukraine and the mechanisms for the implementation of Article 7 of the law, which deals with the language of instruction.

According to Grinevich, the law on education is fully in line with the Constitution of Ukraine and all international obligations of Ukraine, and is in no way aimed at violating the rights of national minorities. In particular, it does not require closing of educational institutions for representatives of national minorities.

The purpose of the law is to introduce a gradual increase of lessons with Ukrainian language of instruction. At the same time, as the minister said, representatives of national minorities in secondary schools will be given the opportunity to study both in Ukrainian and in minority languages.
