Ukraine and Slovakia have agreed to resume the operation of the Uzhgorod airport

The Ukrainian and Slovak parties have agreed on the content of the agreement determining the conditions of use of Slovakia’s airspace at the Uzhgorod International Airport, the tsn.ua reported. The runway there ends just near the border, and the planes after take-off end up in another country.

The bilateral negotiations between the parties lasted for two days – December 17 and 18, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladislav Krykliy said.

He assured that the Ukrainian party would ensure the fastest possible completion of domestic conciliation procedures and hoped for the same actions by the Slovak side.

The Minister reminded that during the visit of the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Caputova to Ukraine on September 16, 2019, the presidents of the both countries reaffirmed the need to intensify the parties’ efforts in order to conclude the relevant agreement as soon as possible.

Recall that the airport "Uzhgorod" has not been operating for the last two years, since 2016. In the spring of 2019, regular flights to Kyiv were resumed but just for two months. The flights were resumed again on June 3.

A year ago, Uzhgorod airport passed European certification. EASA certification will allow aircrafts to freely use the Slovak sky to fly to Uzhgorod.
