Ukraine, the Hungarian community in Ukraine and Hungary will jointly agree on the implementation of Article 7 of the Law "On Education", which will be enshrined in other normative acts. This was stated during the meeting between the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilia Grinevich and the Minister of Human Resources of Hungary Zoltan Balog.
The parties also agreed to wait for the decision of the Venice Commission.
"I am pleased with the constructive dialogue that has taken place between us. I would also like the public of Ukraine to understand that we only want to show the position of Hungarians in Ukraine. We want the best for the Hungarian community in Ukraine. I also want to emphasize: we understand the position of Ukraine that all citizens should speak the state language," – Zoltan Balog said.
The Ukrainian party in the agreements once again stressed that the changes would not be applied until the relevant documents on the implementation of the article are ready, as envisaged by the Law "On Education".
"Article 7 of the Law is very general in nature. The method of implementation will be set out in other normative legal acts. The implementation should take into account the specific features of minorities, in particular those that do not belong to the Slavic languages," – Lilia Grinevich said.
Ukraine and Hungary will also be working together to improve Ukrainian language learning at national minority schools.
"We agree and are ready to cooperate in the pedagogical aspect. We have legal concerns about which we want to have an expert opinion from our partners. But we look forward to further productive cooperation", – the Minister of Human Resources of Hungary added.
