Prosecutors completed the pre-trial investigation and forwarded to the court the criminal proceeding for the prosecution of two police officers.

September 2, prosecutors of Irshava district forwarded to the court the criminal proceeding against two officers of Irshava District Police accused of criminal offenses under Part 1 of Art. 371 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (knowingly illegal detention, house arrest). One of them is also accused of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or authority), and the other one – under Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (forgery).

As previously reported, a local resident complained to the Irshava District Prosecutor’s Office that he had been illegally detained at a bus stop in Irshava by officers of the District Police who had beaten him and taken him to the police department.

January 30, 2013, Irshava district prosecutor registered this fact in the URPI and initiated a pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceeding.  Later, on February 4, the victim reported to prosecutors that one of those policemen had taken away his cell phone.

During the investigation of the criminal proceeding, in addition to the said facts, it was also found out that one of the police officers involved in the commission of the crime against the victim, after bringing him to the police station, had included false information regarding the applicant in an official document.
