“Trash” problems: Uzhgorod, district, region (PHOTOS)

Today, Uzhgorod Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv, the deputy head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Viktor Mikulin, the head of Uzhgorod district state administration Anatoliy Synyshyn and many specialists of the relevant departments started the working day with the visiting meeting at the landfill near the village of Barvinok, the press service of Uzhgorod city council informs.

In 1998, the project of the landfill on 14 acres of land was drafted, by the resolution of the Parliament, in 2000, 9 hectares of land for the landfill were granted for temporary long-term use.

In the allocated area, three buried storage spaces for solid waste (pits) were made. Now the landfill has almost exhausted its resources. In particular, the volume of waste, provided under the project is 1260 thousand tons. However, since November 1998, over 1,143.4 thousand tons has accumulated.

Now, several issues about the landfill need to be solved: to perform reclamation of the current one, its area is about three hectares; to execute numerous procedures for registration of a new land plot and to begin its arrangement; to decide what to do with waste until the new landfill is put into operation; to find investors for modern, environmentally sound and cost-effective processing technology.

The mayor of Uzhgorod Bohdan Andriyiv said that the city authorities, together with regional and district authorities are working on all these fronts. In particular, regarding the reclamation, there is the order of the head of the regional state administration Hennadiy Moskal on allocation of land for landfill reclamation. Meanwhile, the City Council allocates 200 thousand hryvnia for the development of the reclamation project. The designers will determine the scope and the cost of these works.
