Transcarpathians, who like to wash their cars near rivers, face a fine of 1,700 UAH

In Ukraine, and in Transcarpathia in paricular, violators of river protection areas can be fined 340 to 1,700 hryvnia.

Citizens and officials can be brought to justice, the ecotown.com.ua reports. 

In particular, in coast protection strips along rivers, around bodies of water and on the islands, it is prohibited to:

– clean and carry out maintenance of vehicles;

– allocate new land plots for residential development and construction of industrial and warehouse facilities;

– arrange cesspools, landfill sites, cemeteries, manure storages, accumulate liquid and solid wastes;

– discharge untreated sewage using the terrain and streams; store and use pesticides and fertilizers; 

– plow the land (except for soil preparation for afforestation) as well as perform gardening and horticulture works;

– destroy riverbeds, creeks and streams; build any facilities (except hydraulic, hydrometric and linear), including villas, garages and parking lots.

The violation of the rules of usage of areas within the water protection zones and coast protection strips is punishable by a fine.
