Transcarpathians carry thousands hryvnias. Pickpockets are happy about it

According to the police statistics, since the beginning of the year, more than eighty pickpocketing crimes have been committed in Transcarpathia, and this disappointing figure rises almost daily.

The biggest risk is in crowded public transport, markets and shops.

Women and elderly people become the victims of pickpocktes most frequently. Thus, several representatives of the fair sex have become the victims of thieves these days.

A 26-year-old resident of Vynogradiv district was at the bus station in Uzhgorod and did not even notice when somebody’s deft fingers pulled out of the purse her wallet with the money in excess of two and a half thousand hryvnias and bank cards.

A purse with money in the amount of about one thousand hryvnias and bank cards was stolen from a pensioner of Svalyava when the woman was on the market in the city. Fortunately the victim called the bank and blocked the cards in time, so the thief was not able to withdraw money from them.

The third victim on that day was a 30-year-old native of our region, who now lives in Russia and came to Transcarpathia to visit her mother in Svalyava district. In the morning the woman went in one of the stores in Svalyava, and while she was deciding what to buy, a smart thief stole her wallet with the money in the amount of two and a half thousand hryvnias.

The victims filed statements with the police and the thieves are now wanted. Meanwhile, the police once again appeal to people with a caveat: watch your values carefully and responsibly. While being in public transport, on a street, a market or in a store, keep a wallet with money in an inside pocket, not in a purse. Do not let strangers see that you are carrying a significant amount of money.

If you are robbed, then immediately file a statement with the police. The sooner the victim reports a crime, the more likely it is that the police will arrest the thief.
