Seven Transcarpathians who were delivering goods to the city of Shymkent in Kazakhstan got into troubles: it is the 10th day that they haven’t been able to leave the impound lot. They are required to provide the agreement, which has not been issued for 1.5 years.
A resident of Uzhgorod Alina is on her 9th month of pregnancy. She is very worried, because her husband Yuri is among the truck drivers detained in Kazakhstan.
The truck drivers from Uzhgorod, Irshava and Svalyava districts were transporting equipment for a plant producing wine in Kazakhstan. On July 19, the Transcarpathians were arrested by the local traffic police.
– We were stopped for a check if our bilateral agreement wasn’t a fake and then we were temporarily sent to the impound lot. The documents were all in order, says Yuriy. – A few days passed and they raised claims that there was no a three-party agreement, which we cannot have. We have Euro-2 trucks, for which such documents have not been provided for 1.5-2 years already.
The experienced truck drivers have been to Kazakhstan, but this is the first time they have got in such a mess. People appealed to the Ukrainian Consulate however, they cannot do anything. The customer is also trying to help the problem, but he is powerless too. The problem is with different interpretation of the law, the Transcarpathians explain, and they see no way out of a deadlock.
– We only hope on the media. We have run out of money, and parking fee is $ 45 / day. Nearby there is a much cheaper one, but we are not allowed there.
People get water in plastic containers. That is how they wash, buy and cook their food among the trucks. It is 40 degrees above zero outside.
