Transcarpathian Roma participate in the World Congress

Leaders of Roma communities from 35 European countries, America, Australia and India participate in the International Congress of Roma, which is held in the Romanian city of Sibiu, April 8.

The purpose of the meeting was formulated by the Vice President of the International Organization of Roma Florin Cioaba: "This congress takes place in a period of great difficulties which the Roma minority suffers, and thus is the victim of discrimination and marginalization.Iin this Congress we try to express our warning to European organizations to cease discrimination against Roma. We try to find solutions to social problems of Gypsies in the world. " As Mr. Cioaba said, the event was attended by 250 people, 150 of them are guests from different countries, including Ukraine, particularly Transcarpathia. In particular, the most western region was represened by Roma communities – Aladar Adam and youth organizations – Myroslav Horvat.

Just before the congress, representatives of this minority group gathered in the ancient city of Sibiu on solemn march in memory of Holocaust Roma victims . "We remember those who were tortured in camps, more than a million Roma were killed and our march is peaceful protest against the marginalization of the Roma," – said the king Florin Cioaba. Special doll Lulika was made for this event which embodies features of Roma women. Hundreds of its copies together with flowers were lowered by the march participants into the water of the local river, so that it passed a greeting from Roma to Europe.
