Transcarpathian Regional State Administration commented on the inaccessibility of Ukrainian TV for local Hungarians

Claims of Transcarpathian Hungarians that they do not have access to Ukrainian television are overblown – there are problems with digital and analogue broadcasting, but most of the residents of the region use satellite or cable television.

This was stated by Yaroslav Halas, the deputy head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, in a comment to the Ukrinform.

"In Transcarpathia, there are indeed problems with the digital TV broadcast. But this problem concerns the region as a whole, not just Vynogradiv and Beregovo districts densely populated by Hungarians. The problem is much bigger in high-mountainous districts and settlements – in Velyky Berezny, Mizhhirya, Tyachiv, and Rakhiv districts. Even in some part of Uzhgorod and Mukachevo, there is no digital TV reception," – Halas said.

Recall that yesterday, the Director of the Hungarian Channel "21 Uzhgorod" Zoltan Kulin said that Transcarpathian Hungarians did not have access to Ukrainian TV. According to him, the digital television operator "Zeonbud" LLC during the development of its network in Transcarpathia, did not install television towers in Beregovo and Vynogradiv districts. Therefore, Kulin says, the districts densely populated by the Hungarians are not covered with Ukrainian TV broadcasting. He wrote a letter on this matter to the regulator, the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting. A letter to the head of the government Volodymyr Groysman is also being prepared. Transcarpathians ask to install additional television towers and give the districts access to Ukrainian television.

But, according to Halas, the problem is overblown: most of the Transcarpathians in these districts have cable or satellite TV packages, which include Ukrainian TV channels.

"In fact, people have access to Ukrainian content, just like to TV programs from around the world, and they watch what they want. The same goes for Beregovo and Vynogradiv districts. Whether Hungarians want to watch Ukrainian TV is another question, but it is a fact that they have such an opportunity," – the deputy head of the regional state administration says.
