Every year on the third Saturday of May, Ukraine celebrates Europe Day.
After gaining independence, Ukraine adopted a strategic course for European integration and expressed its intention to join the European Community as soon as possible.
That is why Europe Day was established in Ukraine, which has been celebrated since 2003 in accordance with the Presidential Decree "On Europe Day" on the third Saturday in May.
Ukraine is the only non-EU country to celebrate Europe Day at the state level. In Europe itself, this day is celebrated on May 9, according to the decision made in 1985 at the EU Council summit in Milan.
Traditionally, on the occasion of Europe Day, festive thematic events are organized and held in Ukrainian cities. However, this year’s Europe Day events are being held online due to the country’s quarantine.
