Today, in the Transcarpathian Regional Council, experts discussed options for an improved administrative and territorial structure of Transcarpathian region. Experts propose to accept the option with 4 districts instead of 13 current ones.

This was discussed at the round table "Formation of a new district division in Transcarpathian region", the Ukrinform reported.

“There are currently several different options for dividing Transcarpathia into districts within the new administrative division. In general, they consider either 4 districts, or 3 – as suggested by one of the experts of the Ministry of Regional Development Yuriy Ganushchak. The experts in the region currently suggest that instead of the existing 13, four new districts should be formed in Transcarpathia – namely: Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, Khust and Tyachiv,” – Andriy Sheketa, a member of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, specialist of the expert group on improvement of the administrative and territorial structure of Transcarpathian region said.

Sheketa noted that before the Soviet rule, the territory of modern Transcarpathia was divided into 4 counties.

Therefore, he noted, the same number of enlarged districts would be logical now, given the logistical infrastructure, population density, distances between settlements and so on.

According to Sheketa, following the round table, the expert decision on the new division of Transcarpathian region will be sent to the relevant Ministry. They hope that the opinion of local experts will be taken into account in the future division of the region into districts.
