On the eve of the Days of Memory and Reconciliation and the Victory over Nazism in the Second World War, the Main Office of the National Police in Transcarpathian region calls on residents of the region to adhere to the law and not to use prohibited symbols.
According to Part 1 of Art. 4 of the Law of Ukraine "On the Condemnation of the Communist and National-Socialist (Nazi) Totalitarian Regimes in Ukraine and Prohibition of Their Symbols", the production, distribution, and public use of the symbols of the communist totalitarian regime, the symbols of the national-socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regime are prohibited.
Violation of the law entails criminal liability under Art. 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – from 5 to 10 years of imprisonment with or without the confiscation of property.
Public use, demonstration or wearing of the St. George’s (Guards) ribbon or its image is also prohibited. According to Art. 173-3 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, such actions entail the imposition of a fine in the amount of 850 to 5100 hryvnias or an administrative arrest for up to 15 days with the confiscation of the St. George’s (Guards) ribbon or objects containing its image.
The Transcarpathian police will be on high alert to prevent destabilization of the situation and ensure public safety during mass events.
