The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the new law on education. This news caused a wave of dissatisfaction among the national minorities of Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko highly rated the new Law on Education and said that he believed that it would allow to improve the education system in Ukraine. Political scientists say that the chances, that the law will be signed by the President, are very high. On the other hand, national minorities feel excluded from the political process.
As you know, the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has criticized the law on education adopted by the Ukrainian parliament, stressing that it violates the rights of the Hungarian minority. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Hungary said that Hungary considers the law shameful.
The legislative changes jeopardize the functioning of most schools in Transcarpathia and violate the rights of 150,000 Hungarians living in Ukraine, he emphasized.
Romania has also expressed its concern over the Law on Education adopted by the Verkhovna Rada and possible violation of the rights of national minorities.
The Romanian community of Ukraine has already declared its dissatisfaction with the law adopted by the Parliament, especially in the context of the warming of bilateral relations between Romania and Ukraine and the support provided by Bucharest to a neighboring friendly – Ukraine. Ukrainian Romanians signed an appeal to the President Petro Poroshenko asking him to veto this law, considering that it could lead to new conflicts, social tension and instability in the country, the publication BUCpress writes.
