Today, a memorial sign to the outstanding Transcarpathian doctor was installed in Uzhgorod. The bar relief was installed at the house where Andriy Novak – the founder of Uzhgorod Public, now Regional, Hospital – lived.
The plaque was made at the expense of patrons, sculptor Mykhailo Belen agreed to make it for free.
The memorial was opened to mark the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Transcarpathian Regional Hospital. There is alsready a bust of the doctor in the hospital, which has been bearing his name since 2008, also, there is a street named after the famous Dr. Endre (Andriy) Novak in Uzhgorod. He headed the hospital for more than half a century, almost all buildings of the regional hospital were built during his tenure. In the early 20th century, Andriy Novak also founded the school of midwives.
The sculptor Mykhailo Belen, the author of the bas relief says that the work was extremely interesting for him, and the project was completed quite quickly and easily. "I always loved history, especially the history of my native land. For me, it was interesting to work on the plaque for the person who brought Transcarpathian medicine to a new level, – the author of the piece said. – The plaque is made of white artificial stone.













The color and the material allows to see every detail: fonts, eyes, hair, and so on."
By the away, on the occasion of the anniversary of the regional hospital, the sculptor Mykhailo Belen also made the A.Novak Medal. Every year, five such medals will be awarded to the best medical workers of Transcarpathia.
