Transcarpathian journalists also protested against the law on libel (PHOTOS)

Yesterday, October 1, about 50 journalists, activists of different NGOs, students of journalism department, their teachers and ordinary citizens gathered under the walls of RSA. They demanded that the Supreme Council of Ukraine would withdraw the bill of Vitaly Zhuravsky.

Yesterday similar rallies were held throughout Ukraine. Transcarpathian media also decided to join the national protest. Media professionals held in their hands completely white sheets as a symbol of the absence of any keen information if such a law is enacted. "It (the law – ed.) will not allow journalists to work properly. So I suggest to sign the request to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine – said rally organizer Yulia Dub. – In this request we require to introduce the resolution to repeal the bill, vote for inclusion thereof in the agenda and directly vote to repeal this bill."

Vasyl Bedzir, chairman of Uzhgorod City Media Union said, "The worst thing is that the author of the bill is himself a journalist, as he graduated from the Institute of Journalism at Kyiv National University.   It turns out that our colleagues are doing this to us."

By the way, today the parliament did cancel the law on libel.
