Vasyl Brenzovych, the chairman of the Association of Hungarian Culture of Transcarpathia (KMKSZ), People’s Deputy of Ukraine (Petro Poroshenko Bloc) told Hungarian journalists about upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine and which candidates the Hungarians in Transcarpathia are planning to support. This was reported by the Mukachevo.net with reference to the publication Origo.
In particular, according to Brenzovych, none of the candidates for the president of Ukraine can be supported by the Hungarian minority, since the ideas of the candidates are against the real interests of national minorities.
He also told about the negative past experience with Ukrainian politicians: "We would make deals with different candidates before the previous elections, but their promises were not fulfilled later, therefore the Hungarians are rather skeptical."
The chairman of the KMKSZ noted that there are two most promising candidates – Tymoshenko and Poroshenko. However, he believes that the program of Petro Poroshenko is nationalistic, since it is clearly aimed at reducing the rights of minorities. And those candidates, who are more or less acceptable to the Hungarian minority, have no chance to make it to the second round of the election.
