Officers of the Uzhgorod Police Department, together with officers of the Department for Combating Cybercrime in Transcarpathian region, caught a man who had illegally gained access to private data of social network users. According to the police, the 39-year-old resident of the village of Oleshnyk, Vynogradiv district, has developed malicious software to hack the accounts of social network users. He sold it in a specially created channel in one of the public messengers.
Customers who purchased the program and installed it on their gadgets were able to hack the accounts of social network users. The hacker himself gained remote access to computer data, and then used their personal data to make online purchases and other scams for his own enrichment. While documenting the man’s illegal activities, the police conducted court-sanctioned searches at the defendant’s place of residence. Police investigators gathered enough evidence and, under the procedural control of the Uzhgorod Local Prosecutor’s Office, indicted the man of committing crimes under Articles 361 and 361-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. That is development and distribution of malicious software and interference in the work of computers. The suspect faces up to five years in prison, the Communications department of the Transcarpathian regional police informs.
