On Thursday, March 28, there was a roundtable on the implementation of the program to reduce the cost of mortgage loans to provide affordable housing for citizens. The meeting took place under the chairmanship of the Acting Head of the Regioanl State Administration Igor Svyshcho.
According to Galina Dudchuk, the director of the Transcarpathian regional office of the "State Fund for Youth Building," most of the buildings that are now participating in the "Affordable Housing" program, began to be built back in 2008-2009. Then most of the projects provided for large two-and three-bedroom apartments. Today, however, the demand for large area housing dropped. Instead, Transcarpathians are more interested in apartments with one or two bedrooms. So, this year in Transcarpathia they will attract new developers for the "Affordable Housing" program who can provide Transcarpathians with appropriate apartments.
Another major obstacle that prevents to accelerate the Program in the region is that the banks, which give loans, refuse to enter into agreements with the lenders under the guarantee (for example, young families with insufficient income to purchase housing are helped by parents). Banks today do not risk to enter into such agreements, so some Transcarpathians lose the opportunity to buy house.
