Autumn and winter season forces some citizens to think about how to heat their homes. The issue is particularly relevant now when the prices for gas and electricity have become a burden for common citizens. Therefore, the best way to solve this issue is to purchase firewood. For Transcarpathia, it is a local energy resource and it is the most available in our conditions.
However, citizens solve this problem in different ways. Some people buy firewood legally, despite the high cost. Others cut perfectly healthy trees that will heat their homes during the cold season. They go into the woods and cut trees for firewood without permission. This method is criminal.
For example, since the beginning of 2016, forest protection workers of the state enterprise "Perechyn forestry" found out 21 cases of illegal felling of trees within the state forest fund. The total volume of illegally cut wood is 70.22 cubic meters valued at UAH 336.831 thousand. The violators were identified in most cases of illegal logging. Reports were drawn up, resolutions were sent to the court for the recovery of damage caused to the forest as a result of unlawful actions.
Unauthorized felling of trees is punishable under Article 65 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses by a fine of 85 to 170 UAH. In addition, the violator shall reimburse the damage inflicted to the forestry. It should be added that in some cases, criminal liability is provided for unauthorized felling.
In summary, illegal logging entails unpleasant consequences.
