Littering in forest is always a burning issue in Transcarpathia. Foresters sent us a letter in which they ask citizens to take pictures of those who leave piles of garbage after vacationing:
"On the World Environment Day, we encourage people to stop littering in the forests of Transcarpathia. Because littering in forests is a problem that is becoming increasingly difficult to fight. Signs of barbarism and littering can be seen not only in places of public recreation, but even in remote corners: paper, bottles, polyethylene, plastic, cans, piles of hiousehold and industrial waste. Foresters are trying to ensure pleasant rest of our citizens in the woods. Along the roads, in picturesque corners of Transcarpathia, there are specially equipped recreation locations with tables, benches, places for fire and garbage bins, where tourists can rest comfortably. Creating a network of such locations in forests is one of the important measures for forest protection.
Plastic is the enemy of the forest, and what is bad for the forest – a living organism – can not be good to people. According to the Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses with respect to pollution of forests", causing harm to forests with sewage, chemicals, oil and oil products, industrial and household waste entails imposition of fine on citizens in amount of 10 to 30 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens and on officials in amount of 30 to 50 tax-free minimum incomes.
It also provides that littering in forests entails imposition of fine on citizens in amount of 5 to 10 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens, and on officials in amount of 10 to 20 tax-free minimum incomes.
That is, for damaging or littering in forest citizens will have to pay 85 to 510 UAH, and officials – 170 to 850 UAH. Please photograph vacationers who litter in forests and report them to the police or send pictures to the press service by e-mail – [email protected]"
