Transcarpathian fleet – it sounds ridiculous if you think about, but it’s very fun to watch.
Today, Uzhgorod regatta, which took place for the eighth time, set a record for the number of crews and the number of people at the holiday.
The amusing race on non-motorized and mostly self-made boats is perhaps the brightest event of the season in the regional center of Transcarpathia. Once a year, the shallow Uzh turns into a navigable river and the distance for the regatta. Which is an opportunity to show one’s creativity and humor.
This year, the participants again did a good job. 25 crews took part in the race. There was the Dragon, a boat with bodybuilders, a ship from Jamaica, a car with Slovak license plates, crew members wearing hats, on barrels, children’s boats, corporate and family teams, and even the Uzhgorod castle, which was sailing under the direction of the mayor Bohdan Andriyiv. "Wet Tatosh" was driven by the knights of the Order of St. Nicholas, who, like true historians, decorated the boat with a skull of Prince Laborets’s horse, and the boat itself was made of the skin of the snake killed by Prince Koryatovich. However, it was the crew of the "Antsya Kushnytska" presenting an entire train on the water that won in the category of the most original vessel. The boat "Tattoo-bike", more precisely, a windsurfing board, was the first to reach the finish, the mayor’s boat was the first among the homemade ones, and the crew of the Dragon ("Down the Tisa together") won the prize in the category "Noah’s Ark" as the most numerous one.
Traditionally, the Admiral and Rear Admiral of the Transcarpathian Fleet – Fedir Shandor and Serhiy Denisenko – dubbed all the participants sailors by giving them river water to drink. The mayor also tasted the water, although today it was not from the Uzh, but from the Tisa.
The Uzhgorod regatta once again proved that it is not just an original and extremely positive event for the city residents, but also an event worthy of tourists’ attention. We wish everyone involved success in all other matters!
