Transcarpathian fencer won the “bronze” in Berlin

This weekend in Germany. a traditional fencing tournament with more than 50 year history "Berlin Polar Bear" was held.

For Ukraine, the "Berlin Polar Bear 2013" was marked by the bronze medal of Anatoliy Herey. To reach the semifinals of the "Bear-2013", Anatoliy had to go through 2 rounds of previous competitions and win 6 play-off rounds. The Ukrainian athlete was stopped one step before the final by German Joerg Fiedler, who, like the last year, won the tournament. The second place went to Alex Fava (France).

Until 2012, this competition was not part of the official calendar neither of the International Fencing Federation, nor of the European Fencing Confederation, however it always gathered more than 200 participants. Last year, the "Polar Bear" for the first time was held in the status of the European Cup round for athletes aged 23 years and younger.

An interesting feature of this kind of tournament is that there are no age limits for participants, but the tournament results of all sportsmen are included in the rating, according to which the draw for the European Championship for athletes in the age group "23 years and younger" will take place.
