Transcarpathian customs officers seized another “diplomatic contraband”

Another attempt of illegal transportation of tobacco products was prevented by Transcarpathian customs officers together with officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region at the customs checkpoints "Dyakovo".

On June 18, 2016, a car "Mercedes-Benz Vito" with diplomatic license plates of the Russian Federation arrived at the checkpoint, to the "green corridor" lane. There were two citizens of Mongolia in the vehicle. For customs clearance, the driver presented a passport of a citizen of Mongolia, the certificate of registration for the vehicle, and the passenger presented a diplomatic passport and a letter of request from the Embassy of Mongolia in the Russian Federation for cooperation in the smooth passage of diplomatic cargo. According to the documents, it was materials and equipment for the parliamentary elections in June 29, 2016.

Examining the submitted documents, the customs officers had doubts about the authenticity of the letters (they were not originals and did not meet the established form approved by the Vienna Convention). As a result, the vehicle was sent for an in-depth inspection. During the examination of the car, it was found out that the suitcases, which, according to the documents, were registered as diplomatic cargo, contained 29,145 packs of cigarettes, namely: "Rothmans" made in Ukraine, with excise stamps of Ukraine, "Compliment Wins", "NZ", "Lifa" without excise stamps.

Thus, the citizens committed actions aimed at moving cigarettes across the customs border of Ukraine concealed from the customs control, namely by submission of documents containing false information about the name of the cargo being transported in the vehicle. Currently, the customs workers are drafting the report on violation of customs rules.

Recall that there already have been cases of "diplomatic contraband"
